The Location:

Echo Park is centrally located among Los Angeles’ most vibrant East side neighborhoods with easy access to the 5, 10, 101, 110, and Glendale (a.k.a. the 2) Freeways.  The neighborhood is bisected by Sunset Blvd and Echo Park Ave.  The location is ideal for commuters working in Downtown LA, Mid-Wilshire, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Hollywood, and Glendale.

It’s close proximity to the 10 freeway provides relatively quick routes to Santa Monica, Culver City, and Venice in spite of it’s location’s relative distance.

The Borders:

According to the Echo Park Historical Society, there are no official Echo Park neighborhood borders.  However, with slight variations it’s generally agreed upon that the neighborhood’s borders are as follows: the Western border runs along Alvarado St. north from Beverly Blvd. to the 2 Freeway and continues north from there until The Los Angeles River.  The Northern border consists of the Los Angeles River east of the 2 freeway to where it intersects with the 5 and 110 freeways at the Northeast edge of Elysian Park.  The Eastern border then runs south along the 110 Freeway to where it intersects with Beverly Blvd. Finally, the Southern border runs along Beverly east of the 110 freeway, west to Alvarado St.  The Echo Park neighborhood is East of Silver Lake, South of Atwater Village and Glassell Park, West of Cypress Park and Montecito Heights, and North of Downtown.

If you love this place as much as we do, then the Echo Park Neighborhood’s definitely for you.  An unassuming shop looks like a regular convenience store, except all the shelves are stocked with “time travel necessities” for the casual adventurer to places  past and future. Merchandies include Barbarian repellent, Aeon Bottled Time (i.e. sand in a bottle), Primordial Soup In a Can, Robot Toupees and much more.  The store is owned by novelist Dave Eggers and all proceeds from the sales go to 826LA, a non-profit started by the author that provides creative writing classes to underprivileged youth.  Pretty cool, right?
